On October 26, 1997, there has been the 6th Japan Cup Cycling Road Race.

And for the first time a Japanese athlete won (and he's still the only one to this day after 30 editions). Second place for another famous Mapei athlete, Andrea Tafi.

His name is Yoshiyuki Abe, that exactly in that year (1997) was a member of the Mapei GB team, while the previous year he ran for the Vinavil team (a company that now is a subsidiary of Mapei Group).

He then participate to many other events and races, until his retirement in 2011.

So this year and this particular event will be remember as a very important one, both for the Japanese cycling world and for Mapei's name in Japan.

It is still one of the few Countries where Mapei is not present on the field with its additives/admixtures production plants and the only dealer of Mapei products is Nagaoka RMC, that has been importing and selling the Re-Con Zero series products for over ten years now.

So Mapei's name in Japan is famous for 2 main reasons. Its cycling team's history and Re-Con Zero.

In the coming May the Eroica Japan cycling event will be held in the Izu Peninsula and Mapei and Nagaoka RMC will both sponsor it.
